PROBLEM DOESN'T END WITH PRISONS

The Editor:

Re: 'Prison guards work hard to keep contraband out,' Times Letters, Jan. 13.

I'm writing about the thoughtful letter from H. L. Bergen, the acting
regional deputy commissioner of Correction Services of Canada.

It is no doubt that most prison guards do work hard to keep contraband out.
However, it is also no doubt that illegal drugs can be found inside all of
the prisons of Canada.

And if you cannot keep drugs from getting into prisons with razor wire
fences, lethal electric fences, iron bars and security cameras everywhere,
how do you expect to keep drugs out of countries with thousands of miles of
international borders and coastline?

When you get the answer, please share it with the politicians in the
country south of you.

You know, the country with the huge statue proclaiming liberty for all and
with more prisoners than any other country on the planet and in history.
