LESS INTRUSIVE GOVERNMENT
The Detroit News is absolutely right that having to "prove one's innocence"
turns the principles of due process on its head ("Congress Should Deny
Funding for School Drug Tests, Jan. 24). Treating children like criminals
sends the wrong message about what we expect from them. Not to mention the
trauma created by false positives from over-the-counter medicines and
legally prescribed medications.
I thought Republicans believed in smaller and less intrusive government.
This, like spending millions to promote marriage, is not what government
should be doing.
