REP. VIERS NEEDS TO DO HIS JOB, LAY OFF THREATS
Once again, our young state representative from District 68 has demonstrated
his lack of maturity by making an unnecessary and what many may interpret to
be a thinly veiled political threat against members of the Horry County
Board of Adjustments and Zoning Appeals.
In the Jan. 23 front-page story about the zoning board's decision to
allow the Center of Hope to continue to operate, Rep. Thad Viers is
quoted as stating that the board ignored the concerns of its
constituents and that "I would not be surprised if they were replaced
very quickly."
As one of Viers' constituents, I would appreciate it if he would
concern himself more with doing his job in Columbia, working to solve
some of the enormous financial problems facing our state and local
governments, [instead of] seizing on a what is nothing more than an
opportunity for him to get some personal political play out of the
methadone clinic controversy.
Like a little child who didn't get his way, he immediately began
whining and leveling threats (for the second time concerning this
controversy) at the public servants who have been charged with making
the difficult decision they made. It would be nice if he could have
respected that decision in a fashion that is a reflection of his
elected office.
Mr. Viers, you do your job in Columbia, and let the folks who are
elected and appointed in Horry County do theirs. Quit using your
elected position to level veiled threats at those individuals when
things don't go your way. If you don't, it may be you who is replaced
very quickly.
