ISSUES ON SHOOTING
I would like to address several issues concerning the shooting death
of Kenneth Walker.
First. It is a tragedy for the Walker family as well as the Glisson
family. It is also a tragedy for the community and for law
enforcement.
Second. I watched TV-3 news show a photograph of a deputy sheriff that
they misidentified as David Glisson. How on earth could TV-3 make such
a stupid mistake? How difficult could it be to verify a photograph? If
they cannot even get a photograph correct, how accurate are the
"facts" that they are reporting about this incident?
Third. Has anyone else asked themselves why Kenneth Walker and the
other three individuals went to and stayed 15 minutes inside an
apartment where ounces of cocaine were being sold by major drug dealers?
Fourth. It is a sad state of affairs that racism is alleged whenever
an incident occurs involving a white law enforcement officer and a
black citizen. The Walker shooting was not even 24 hours old when the
NAACP alleged it was racially motivated. There were no facts then or
now to make this allegation.
Fifth. It is ludicrous for the NAACP or any other organization to call
for Sheriff Ralph Johnson to resign. What is the rational basis for
this request? We should be supporting the sheriff we as a community
elected. The sheriff has given us no reason to do otherwise.
Finally, let the GBI finish its investigation. Let all the facts come
out before deciding the fate of David Glisson. I feel confident that
all the facts will come to light and the appropriate decisions will be
made.
