PARK AND RIDE A JAB IN SIDE

Needles and other drug paraphernalia have been found at the troublesome
Helmcken Road park and ride.

The claim was among responses to a recent B.C. Transit questionnaire, View
Royal Coun. John Rogers said.

The survey also noted complaints, again, of Victoria General Hospital staff
using the park and ride for overflow parking, Rogers said at last week's
town council meeting.

Ritchie Harold of JJM Highway Maintenance said in an interview that he was
not aware of any such complaints.

He questioned how any complainant could distinguish hospital staff from the
public.

Harold also said any reports of drug paraphernalia would be dealt with
immediately and in accordance with hazardous-waste-removal protocol.
