'JUST SAY NO' THE ONLY ANSWER

Editor:

In response to Kirk Tousaw's letter 'Legalize weed and see the change' in
the Jan. 30 issue.

I am disgusted that this supposed educated man could want this drug
legalized. For his information; legal businesses do have guns, they do fund
organized crime, they do steal hydro and some even do trade their product
for illegal substances.

If made legal this would not eliminate social harms. I am pleased with the
way the police are cracking down on this terrible drug. The effects of this
drug go beyond the users and extend to their children (born and unborn).

As a mother I have discovered many things affect our children. Did this
Kirk Tousaw know that a man who smokes this drug causes genetic damage to
his sperm which reflects in his children? Who then have to deal with this
problem? We do: as parents and a community.

It causes behavioural problems and learning problems, just to name a few.

Would his view change if Canada was the number one grower?

Too many underestimate the terrible effects of marijuana, just like
cigarettes, now look at the problems smokers of cigarettes are facing. I'm
sure way back when cigarettes first came out no one really thought of the
long-term effects of cancer, etc.

Marijuana is being looked at based on the short-term effects.

No matter how you harvest it, Mr. Tousaw, marijuana causes serious
psychological, physical and social problems.

It is just as bad as the other illegal drugs. Say no to the legalization of
marijuana.
