COUNTY FINANCE REVIEW

Wayne County commissioners will receive their annual review of the county's
finances Tuesday.

Nunn Brashear & Co. is scheduled to present the county's 2003-04 audit at
the commissioners' regular meeting. Typically, the audit is presented in
January, but new regulations went into effect this year and caused a slight
delay.

Also Tuesday, Maj. Ray Smith of the Wayne County Sheriff's Office will
update the commissioners on local use, sale and manufacture of
methamphetamine, an illegal stimulant.

Smith is expected to say that the laboratories set up to make the drug pose
a threat to children in the homes and firefighters and law enforcement
officers who might be called to the scene.

After the briefing, the board will consider a resolution calling for
tougher punishment for people convicted of making, selling or distributing
methamphetamine.

The commissioners are expected to award a contract to study its sewer lines
south of Goldsboro for groundwater infilitration. Two companies have bid
for the work.

The board will decide whether to ask the state to take over maintenance of
five roads: Edgebrook Drive, Halston Drive, Amy Court, Sutton's Run and
Clay Road.

The commissioners will convene at 8 a.m. Tuesday for a briefing on the
agenda. The meeting begins at 9 a.m. in the commissioners' meeting room,
third floor, Wayne County Courthouse Annex, 224 E. Walnut St.
