TRAFFIC STOP NETS 49 KG OF POT, DUO BUSTED

Memo to would-be drug couriers: When transporting illegal substances
in a vehicle, it's a good idea not to speed. The driver and passenger
of a car with 49.5 kg (110 pounds) of packaged marijuana inside were
busted for drug trafficking Thursday morning after being pulled over
for speeding.

"In reality there is no such thing as a routine traffic stop because
you never know what will come about from a traffic stop," said Falcon
Beach RCMP Const. Kevin Mantie.

The vehicle was pulled over about 11 a.m. by Falcon Beach RCMP Const.
Ryan Cadotte, who soon discovered the drugs.

PASSENGER FLED

While Cadotte was arresting the driver, the passenger fled -- leaving
a fresh set of footprints in the snow.

Mantie went to the scene and eventually located the passenger a short
distance away hiding in a snow bank in a heavily treed area.

"It doesn't pay to speed in Falcon Beach," Mantie said.

Hung Nguyen, 28, of Toronto, was charged with drug-trafficking
offences.

Van Thai Dihn, 39, of London, Ont., was charged with drug-trafficking
offences as well as obstruction of justice and breach of recognizance
offences.

Dihn was on bail for similar charges in London.
