73-YEAR-OLD WOMAN NABBED AT GROW OP

Mom and pop it's not; so a 73-year-old woman is among three family
members arrested Tuesday for their illegal business venture-growing
marijuana.

Police learned of the 202-plant operation after hydro wires started
the suspects' house on fire in the 46000 block of Macken Avenue. The
senior grower was arrested with a 42-year-old woman and 39-year-old
man, one of whom is believed to be her child. All three face charges
of production of a controlled substance and possession for the purpose
of trafficking.

Const. David Aucoin said police weren't especially surprised by the
senior's age.

"Really, there's no boundaries as it relates to age," he said,
pointing to a bust last month which netted 227 plants and charges
against a 60-year-old man and 57-year-old woman living on McNaught
Road.

"It goes to show you the regard as it relates to social decay."

Whether or not the senior was actively involved in the grow-op will be
decided by the courts, but for the time being she will be considered
an equal participant, Aucoin added.

"Being present in the house she has as much responsibility as the
others."
