JUNIOR HIGH STUDENT SELECTED FOR DARE BOARD

FAYETTEVILLE -- A ninth-grader from Ramay Junior High School has been
selected to serve on the Drug Abuse Resistance Education America Youth
Advisory Board, according to a news release Monday.

Christian Norman will represent Arkansas on the DARE board this spring. She
will be sent, along with one of her parents, to the Drug Enforcement
Administration training operation in Quantico, Va., the release said.

She also will be eligible to receive a $20,000 college scholarship from
DARE America when she graduates from high school.

The scholarship is available only to those who serve on this board, and
only one person is selected to receive the scholarship each year, the
release said.

The purpose of the youth advisory board is to give DARE graduates an
opportunity to speak about issues affecting the worldwide DARE program,
said Dan Montgomery, DARE coordinator.

The board also advises DARE America and local programs and community
leaders on drug- and violence-prevention strategies.

Montgomery said Norman will also lead after-school programs for youth and
be involved in letter-writing campaigns, media response, role modeling and
will speak at functions within the state.
