POT HARMFUL
Dear Editor:
For several months we have seen a number of letters in The Mississauga News
which, while variously phrased, advocate the use of marijuana. The most
recent was one from Colorado which appeared Feb. 18.
Lately, there has been a spate of publicity in the media regarding the
signing by the Toronto Argonauts of Rashaan Salaam, a former Heisman trophy
winner. One writer noted that Salaam played in the NFL "...but soon an
addiction to marijuana derailed the talented running back and left him a
changed man."
Salaam says of himself: "When I got hurt I wasn't going to practice so I
pretty much spent my time sitting around getting high."
When you win the Heisman trophy, you have been recognized as an exceptional
football player. The use of marijuana destroyed Salaam's promising NFL
football career.
Question: Will the use of marijuana also harm the careers of promising
accountants, nurses, bricklayers or anyone else who indulges in the practice?
