ADDICTS NEED FULL-SERVICE SOLUTION
At the corner of Blanshard and Cormorant streets, addicts shoot up,
deal drugs, defecate, break in and steal from the taxpayers.
Our mayor says we need this needle exchange. I suggest he live here
and listen to the howling in the middle of night, find his car broken
into in the morning and pick up the used needles left in his doorway.
The solution, although not simple, is going to require money. A
full-service facility where all the complex needs of these people are
met is required.
The city should bring all of the services such as the Open Door under
one roof, and provide assistance for those who are mentally incapable
of helping themselves.
The benefits of a full-service facility include lower crime,
increased property values, better use of police resources, lower
insurance costs and with a little luck, we can help a few of these
challenged people return to society in a useful manner.
