REHAB CAMP COULD BREAK ADDICTIVE CYCLE
Victoria's idea of opening drug distribution centres for the homeless
is a drug-enabling policy.
What is needed is institutionalization. These people need real help,
not help to take more drugs.
Their lives are out of control. They wander the streets wild of mind,
insecure, filled with anxiety. If they had a warm bed, clean sheets,
hot water and a full stomach they could start thinking about how to
get their lives back together.
My suggestion is a medical rehabilitation camp for drug-addicted
persons. Here they would stay for an extended period of time, up to
two years, living in a drug-free therapeutic environment while
learning skills for better living.
Colin Matheson,
Victoria.
