DRUG PROOF YOUR KIDS

Informed parents are the best prevention against children using drugs,
said mother Colleen Titus who is inviting parents to attend a six week
program she is hosting this month called "How to Drug Proof Your Kids."

Also referred to as DPYK, the program is an education, prevention and
intervention program that equips parents with the tools and knowledge
to help steer their children away from the harmful use of drugs.

Titus, a trained facilitator, believes the drug problem among teens is
growing and taking a proactive, rather than reactive approach is the
best way to go.

"Research proves that kids are less likely to use drugs if the parents
are really involved," she said. "You can ignore the problem or be
ready. Parents make a difference."

As a parent who has two drug-free teens attending Walnut Grove
Secondary School, the teachings of this program are important to her.

"My heart is in it and I'm passionate about it," said Titus. Similar
programs will be running at Alex Hope Elementary and Dorothy Peacock
Elementary.

"The RCMP are behind this program and it's our hope it can be offered
in every school in Langley," she said.

The "How to Drug Proof Your Kids (DPYK) Parent Program" consists of
six two-hour sessions and is being offered Wednesdays, March 24, 31,
April 14, 21, 28 and May 5 from 7-9 p.m. at Walnut Grove Secondary
School, Room 154.

The cost is $30 person/$50 per couple.

Pre-registration is by March 16. Call Colleen at 604-779-4067 for
further information about any of the three schools offering the program.
