ANOTHER GROW-OP IN AFFLUENT SUBURB
WINNIPEG police busted the third marijuana grow-operation this winter in an
affluent West Kildonan neighbourhood yesterday after Winnipeg fire fighters
stumbled onto the find.
A neighbour near the split-level house on Glencairn Road called the fire
department after mistaking steam streaming from a window for smoke.
As neighbours clustered outside in the brisk, clear afternoon yesterday,
police carted out armloads of metre-tall, healthy looking pot plants.
Winnipeg Police Service Vice Sgt. Rick Guyader, who was in charge on the
scene, said he estimated the grow-op bust netted about 200 plants with a
street value of more than $200,000.
Neighbours said a couple moved into the home last May, but they were quiet
and didn't mix much with neighbours. The couple did not appear to have many
visitors and they were rarely seen outside the house.
