CANNABIS GROWN TO RELIEVE PAIN
A 68-year-old Waimate caregiver yesterday admitted growing 80 cannabis
plants to relieve her husband's pain after a stroke.
Police also found 13 loaves and two small cakes containing cannabis butter.
It was the first time Dawn Sarah Willis had ever appeared in a court,
Timaru District Court was told.
Judge Edward Ryan said people wanting to use cannabis medically could
apply, but he admitted there had never been a successful application. He
sentenced Willis to 100 hours' community work.
