TOLERATING DRUG USE WOULD BENEFIT NO ONE IN OUR SOCIETY

Sherwood Park News - I agree to Educate and don't propagate (March 24).
However, I can't understand sinking money into helping people who are
addicted to drugs.

What is suggested by Jamie Czerwinski is called acceptance. Obviously Jamie
has not had to deal directly with someone who has a drug problem, otherwise
he/she would see that these hand-holding techniques don't work.

Drug abuse is a much more complicated situation than what is suggested here.
As for job-find services, I would like to see the job that would be fit for
someone who is high on pot or cocaine or worse. What he/she is suggesting is
just a way for drug users to keep using and for the drug pushers to keep on
pushing.

I don't have an answer to the problem because I know this will continue to
be a problem within this society, however, if we tolerate it, the problem
will become worse. I can't believe the suggestion on harm reduction seminars
that will teach people on how to use drugs safely. Has this person ever seen
anyone that is using drugs? The last thing they are thinking about at that
moment is whether or not they used their drug safely.

I recently saw two young guys driving down the streets of Sherwood Park in a
newer white Jimmy passing a joint back and forth. Do you think they were
thinking of their safety or the safety of the others around them?

Drugs alter the minds of the people taking them. Do you want to drive the
streets knowing that we have a society that tolerates drug use and that we
allow these people behind the wheel of a vehicle with enough power to
destroy the lives of innocent people around them? That is more like what you
are suggesting, Jamie.

Sit up and take notice that we shouldn't tolerate drug use in any form. What
is next, because someone's child was abused by someone with a drug problem
we should excuse them because of their drug abuse?

Yes, they need help but not as they freely use and are allowed to roam our
streets.

You can argue that not all drug users are criminals but they are doing
criminal activities and should have to answer to their choices in life.
