DRUGS CAUSED DEATH - AUTOPSY
A woman who died after taking two Ecstasy pills last June had a fatal
reaction to the drugs, confirmed an autopsy report.
An autopsy report, released Thursday by RCMP, said 19-year-old Sonya Weeks
died from the toxic effects of the street drugs.
The report said Weeks died of the toxicity of combined MDMA, also known as
Ecstasy, as well as methamphetamine, also called speed or crystal meth, and
amphetamine.
Ecstasy pills are sometimes cut with speed.
"This means there was some kind of drug involved in the death," said Cpl.
Bucky Buchanan.
In June 2003, Weeks became ill after taking two ecstasy pills at the former
Euphoria dance club in downtown Red Deer.
She went home at about 6 a.m. and friends called paramedics at 10:15 a.m.
when they noticed she had stopped breathing.
The dance club has since shut down because the city refused to renew its
licence.
