MARIJUANA ACTIVIST ADOPTS CASE OF NOVA SCOTIAN

Sydney, N.S. -- The president of the B.C. Marijuana Party is bringing
his pot crusade to Nova Scotia to protest against the jail sentence of
an 18-year-old Cape Breton man.

Marc Emery said he feels the majority of Nova Scotians do not agree
with the sentence given to Wallace Gouthro last month in Sydney
Provincial Court.

Mr. Emery, who was at Dalhousie University as part of a nationwide
speaking tour, said it's ludicrous to lock up a teenager with hardened
criminals all because of a few grams of marijuana.

Mr. Gouthro was convicted of selling marijuana at a high-school dance
and ordered to serve 90 days, on weekends, in jail.

He must also complete a one-year probation period during which he is
to refrain from alcohol and illegal drugs and is not to be on the
property of any school where he is not a registered student.

Mr. Emery is among those Canadians leading the pressure to change
Canada's drug laws.

His protest at Sydney Provincial Court is scheduled to begin at 10
a.m. Thursday.
