POLICE DOGS SNIFF OUT LARGE POT OPERATION
A pair of sharp-sniffing cops took a page from a police dogs' playbook
early yesterday morning. The pair are being credited with bringing
down a significant marijuana grow operation after smelling the
distinct smell of pot while driving past the home about 5 a.m. yesterday.
The cops were driving in their cruiser along Redwood Avenue near
Battery Street when they noticed the smell, said police duty Insp. Roy
Smith.
"The marijuana smell seemed to be lingering in that area and they
drove right through that cloud," said Smith.
The officers got out of their vehicle and searched for the home where
the odour was coming from. After narrowing the search to a home at
1009 Redwood Ave., vice division officers arrived at the scene and
executed a search warrant.
More than 100 mature marijuana plants with an estimated street value
of $117,000 were seized by cops, said Smith. A 42-year-old man living
at the home was arrested and charged with possession for the purposes
of trafficking.
