SOUTH CONDUCTS DRUG CHECK
Last week, J.D. Jackson principal Susan Carver conducted an
"impromptu" drug search at South Junior High School, using police
officers from surrounding departments and drug dogs to conduct a
search of the entire school.
The unannounced drug search netted zero results as students and
faculty and all other adults were "locked down" in classrooms and
other rooms throughout the school. According to Carver, the students
placed all their belongings, including purses and book bags, in the
halls and then returned to their rooms and remained there until a
complete search was made of the facility and the belongings, as well
as student lockers. The students were "locked down" for approximately
one hour. "There was no reason or cause for the search," Carver said.
"Lock downs and searches are to be conducted as part of school policy
throughout the year, so we thought this would be a good day to put the
policy into practice." According to Carver, the lock-down and search
was conducted to perfection and all those who participated did exactly
what they were supposed to do.
