UNWITTING LAWYER CLEARED
A local criminal lawyer arrested last October after he unknowingly
brought art pens with marijuana stuffed inside to a client at
Headingley Correctional Institute will not be charged, RCMP said yesterday.
RCMP spokesman Sgt. Steve Saunders said police could find no evidence
of criminal intent to smuggle.
The drugs were discovered Oct. 26 when the lawyer voluntarily gave the
pens to guards for inspection.
The Free Press will not name the lawyer because he has not been
charged. He has practised criminal law for more than a decade.
