WORKSHOP AIMED AT CRYSTAL METH

Learn about Crystal Meth, what to look for and what to do about it at
a special workshop next month.

The Fort Saskatchewan Drug Awareness Steering Committee has organized
the event to show the public and particularly local businesses what
can be done to fight this new drug.

The steering committee consists of representatives from AADAC, the
Boys & Girls Club, Child & Family Services, Community Watch, the City
of Fort Saskatchewan, Elk Island School, the hospital, Alberta Justice
and the RCMP.

Police, courts, social workers and local social agencies are all
saying that Crystal Meth is a highly addictive drug that is causing
serious crime and personal problems in Fort Saskatchewan.

The drug is made from common cold remedies and other readily available
ingredients. It is therefore easily cooked up in basements, bedrooms,
kitchens or even picnic sites.

The presentation on May 12 will discuss the scope of the local problem
and alert merchants about the items they sell that they need to control.

The presentation takes place at the Fort Junior High School at 9607
Sherridon Drive starting at 7 p.m. Organizers warn that a video to be
presented that evening is not suitable for children under the age of 14.
