PARENT SESSION ON DRUGS

Everyone knows the teens years can be tough, but would you recognize
serious trouble if it was in front of you?

Parents interested in learning more about today's drugs of choice and
identifying signs of substance abuse are invited to join a parent
information session presented by the non-profit group Protect Our Children.

Even keen-eyed and concerned parents may overlook simple household cleaning
products or over-the-counter medications that can be used as drugs.

On Monday, April 26 and again May 3, Wayne Jeffery, a retired senior
toxicologist with the RCMP will be on hand for a two-hour seminar to help
teach parents what to look for.

The event will be held at Burnaby Village-Discovery Room, 6501 Deer Lake
Ave., from 7 to 9 p.m. A donation of $10 per person is requested.

Protect Our Children is a non-profit society created to help fill the gap
for support for families with teens involved in high-risk activities.

The organization provides information for both parents and youth to put
them in touch with community and other resources that will help them work
through issues related to substance abuse and addiction, sexual abuse,
destructive behaviors and the effects of these on families.

For more information about the parent sessions, call 604-219-1027.

The group also has a website at www.protectourchildren.ca.
