ELECT, DON'T APPOINT
(snip)
I note with belated joy the departure of Deputy District Attorney
Gary Booker from the prosecutor's office. Booker first came to my
attention in 2002 when he falsely claimed that "drug cartels" were
behind Question 9, a ballot measure that would have legalized
possession of up to 3 ounces of marijuana.
Of course, drug cartels are the biggest fans prohibition has ever had,
as it keeps prices and profits high. Later it was revealed the
information may have come from convicted felon and perennial fringe
Democratic presidential candidate Lyndon LaRouche.
When I called Booker about the remark, he flatly denied he'd said it.
But a Review-Journal reporter had it on tape.
After his lie was confirmed, he should have been removed from
courtroom duties, since that job requires something Booker apparently
lacks: Honesty.
So good riddance to an overachiever: A man who lied about his
lies.
