ADMIT IT, MINDY, THE COLUMN WAS ABOUT POT!

RE: "DRUGGED drivers a threat to safety," by Mindelle Jacobs, May 2.
Jacobs's comment is as disingenuous as Justice Minister Irwin Cotler's
asserted reason for introducing draft legislation to drug-test for impaired
drivers. Although Jacobs doesn't once mention the word cannabis, this
proposal is clearly a poorly veiled agenda to deny those who consume
cannabis of the right to drive. Given the fact there is no clear method of
determining level of impairment and considering the lack of any credible
studies indicating any discernible impairment from cannabis consumption, it
becomes obvious this legislation is meant as yet another weapon in the
arsenal used to wage war against those who express their right to choose an
alternative medicinal plant. Also, given the fact that THC is unique in
that it remains detectable for up to a month after consumption, it's clear
the agenda is to punish cannabis use in the way pre-employment and random
drug tests are used to deny jobs to those who consume cannabis.
