COURT SEEKS REPLY ON ANTI-DRUG EFFORTS
The Supreme Court on Friday gave the secretary of state 30 days to
respond to a marijuana advocacy group's demand that a federal
anti-drug official be required to provide expense information spent
lobbying against a state pot initiative.
The Washington, D.C.,-based Marijuana Policy Project has asked the
court to require Heller to collect the campaign spending information
from drug czar John Walters.
In January 2003, an attorney for Walters said he is immune from
Nevada election laws "as a federal official acting within the scope of
duties, including speaking out about the dangers of illegal drugs."
