ROBERSON ATTENTION SHOULD BE FOR WINS, NOT DRUGS
The front-page article, "Drug testing at schools a life-or-death issue for
some/Board considers controversial subject for Roberson today," (AC-T, May
12), I felt was very inappropriate. I am a mother of one of the boys on the
Roberson High baseball team. There are a number of guys on that team who
are great athletes, as well as students. As of last evening, they won their
last game of the season and are undefeated this school year. To think that
they would be pictured on the front page of your paper in relation to an
article promoting drug testing in schools rather than praising them for a
super baseball season, I don't understand. In fact, I'm rather baffled by
the whole thing. Kids need to be applauded, especially when they've done
good. To come off such a great season in baseball - to win all their games
- - to wake up to the paper and find them in a picture on the front page with
an article referencing drugs in school - go figure.
I hope there's an apology given to the team, as well as more praise in the
paper about their accomplishments. Let it be said, I am not opposed to drug
testing; however, I do feel the testing should be applied to all kids - not
just those in sports.
