OFFICER SHOOTS ATTACKING DOG IN DRUG RAID

Despite threatening pit bulls, Texas City Police officers pulled off a
successful drug raid that ended in the arrest of two men and the
shooting death of one dog, Saturday.

Following complaints about a residence in the 600 block of Seventh
Street North, Texas City Special Crimes Unit discovered that drugs
were being sold out of the house, police said.

Undercover officers bought drugs at the residence as evidence that the
illegal transactions were taking place, police said. That evidence was
presented to a judge who signed a search warrant for the house.

Around 4:30 p.m. several Special Crimes Officers and some back-up
patrol officers drove up to the house, ran out of the vehicles and
began the raid.

Sgt. Ross Clements said the raid was conducted quickly. The key to a
successful raid is speed, according to Clements. "It's not like
delivering the milk," he said.

Two suspects who were in the front yard when police drove up, were
immediately taken into custody.

Special Crimes officers then entered the house in search of other
suspects and contraband.

Upon entering the house, Officer Ricci Ostermayer was confronted by a
pit bull who lunged at him in an attempt to attack, Clements said.

Ostermayer quickly shot and killed the dog, according to police.

Three other pit bulls were tied up around the residence, police said.

One other suspect was inside the house at the time and he was also arrested.

Officers recovered packaged crack cocaine inside the house, police said.

One of the men who was in the yard, was not connected to the drug
activity and was identified and released, police said.

The other two men, [DELETE], 22, and [DELETE], 21, both from Texas City were
arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance.

Their bonds had not been set at press time.

Earlier in the week, Special Crimes officers raided another location
in the 600 block of Second Avenue that led to the arrest to of several
persons and the recovery of a significant amount of drugs, police said.
