MAN WHO HID CAR IN GOUVERNEUR ALLEGEDLY HAD 40 POUNDS OF POT
GOUVERNEUR - A man's attempt to hide his car and a $120,000 load of
hydroponic marijuana from police here failed Thursday afternoon when a
police task force watched him reclaim the vehicle.
[DELETE], 22 and [DELETE] 21, both of St. Regis Quebec, were arrested
on Welch Road in the town of Gouverneur at about 2:30 p.m. after
police using a search warrant, found 40 pounds of the high-grade
marijuana in the trunk of the vehicle, police said.
Mr. [DELETE], charge with first-degree criminal possession of
marijuana, was committed by Gouverneur Town Justice John Riordon to
St. Lawrence County Jail, Canton, with bail set at $50,000.
Ms. [DELETE] was cited with forth-degree conspiracy, and was released
without bail.
They both await grand jury action on their respective felony
counts.
The car was impounded as a result of the investigation by village
police and the St. Lawrence County Drug Task Force. The Border Patrol,
state police with two dogs, and sheriff's deputies assisted.
Police said Mr. [DELETE] attempted to avoid a seat belt enforcement
checkpoint by hiding his car in a garage. Later, task force members
saw him retrieving the car and halted him a short time later.
