COUNCILLOR SUGGESTS TOWN, POLICE SHOULD DISCUSS GROW-OPS

Wards 1 and 2 Regional Councillor Clark Somerville, the town's
representative on the Halton Regional Police Services Board, requested the
town meet with police on marijuana grow operations (grow ops).

In his motion, Somerville noted that significant damage is done to
properties to accommodate grow-ops, leading to greater chance of fire and
personal injury. He is requesting that a meeting be set up between town
senior staff, Halton Hills Hydro and Halton Police to discuss the merits of
requiring all former grow-op properties to get occupancy permits before the
homes are reused by an unsuspecting family.

Somerville said this measure is required in some other municipalities. He
added that in a case of one Halton Hills home, the town's Building Zoning
and Enforcement Department insisted on new building and occupancy permits
due to the extent of the home's damage.
