CARRIERE WANTS MARIJUANA LEGALIZED
Other than the legalization of marijuana, there are not too many other
issues that Marijuana Party candidate Denis Carriere is concerned about.
The 41-year-old pulp and paper worker doesn't expect any changes in
the law during his lifetime and he blames pressure from the United
States.
"This (fight to legalize marijuana) has been going on for 80 years and
it's getting worse all the time," Carriere said.
"It's the U.S. influence. I wish I knew why because we're a separate
country."
Carriere said there are other uses for marijuana aside from the
medicinal purposes. He said fibre from the marijuana plant can be
extracted to make 10,000 different products ranging from two-by-fours
to the body of the stealth jet bomber.
Carriere would like to see the election laws changed so that a
political party would get a number of seats based on its percentage of
the vote.
"If the NDP gets 35 per cent of the vote, I don't think they'll get 35
per cent of the seats," he said.
"We need to see more equal representation."
