MANY AGREE WITH SOROS
A recent editorial displayed a dismissive attitude toward George
Soros. This does not alter the fact that many (half or more?)
Americans agree with his assessment of the Bush administration.
The editorial was correct that President Bush clearly had to take
action following Sept. 11, 2001. And, most people agreed with the
decisive initial steps to pursue al-Qaida operatives and ringleader
Osama bin Laden.
However, when Bush turned the U.S. military on Iraq, many former
supporters parted ways with his tactics. Indeed, many of us view the
U.S. attack on Baghdad as not much different than the attack on New
York City.
Soros is simply helping to finance this point of view. He can only
emerge a winner if a majority of the American electorate agrees with
him and votes for John Kerry.
Soros' support for issues like ending the U.S. drug war is hardly a
"leftist" position. Well-known conservatives like William F. Buckley,
George Schultz and Gary Johnson, former governor of New Mexico, have
been pushing that issue for over a decade.
Here's hoping we can see a Soros win on both fronts.
