PROHIBITION NOT WORKING

Re: "Police chief says pot study 'unrealistic,'" Saturday, June 12:

My colleague Chief Constable Shrive cannot be aware of the failure of
the concept that stiffer penalties for drug dealers would lessen the
grow op problem in Canada.

Look to the south, Sir.

Here in the States we lock up millions of dealers to no effect.

Moreover, Const. Shrive ignores the reduction in public safety, as we
lose our focus on say, drunk drivers and child molesters.

Instead, officers and detectives spend their whole shift trying to
find a marijuana patch or baggie of pot.

Ending cannabis prohibition would not be a perfect answer, but it
would put the grow ops out of business and make Canada safer.
