PUBLIC URGED TO BACK WAR AGAINST DRUGS

IT would take authorities at least 85 years to arrest all the drug
traffickers and their minions without the people's cooperation.

Senior Supt. Samson Tucay, deputy chief of the Philippine National Police
Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force, said the public and the
private sectors should get involved in the fight against drug addiction.

"We observed that as we neutralize some of the local drug groups in the
country, new groups emerge. The emergence of these new groups makes our
work as antidrug authorities more difficult," Tucay told The Manila Times.

When asked why new groups emerge, Tucay said drugs involve easy money.

"There's big profits in illegal drugs despite the hazards of drug
trafficking. Given the proper equipment, a P20,000 capital could turn into
P2.5-million earnings," he said.

Because of the problem, the PNP fully supports the Dangerous Drugs Board's
latest information campaign against narcotics.

"If we could only strengthen our intelligence network through the people's
help, then we could put an end to this drug menace," said Tucay.

The DDB had launched several tours around the country to join its Barkada
Kontra Droga project.

The campaign was highly supported by provincial schools, especially the
Holy Angel University and Angeles University Foundation in Angeles,
Pam-panga, where the second leg of the tour took place
