2 CPD COPS CHARGED FOR DRUG SUSPECT'S ESCAPE

TWO members of the Central Police District have been charged before the
prosecutor's office for negligence of duty that led to the escape of a drug
suspect detained at the La Loma Police Station in Quezon City.

National Capital Region Police Office director Ricardo de Leon said the
filing of administrative and criminal charges against SPO4 Edgardo
Reburiano and PO2 Romeo DL Paday should serve as a stern warning as he
reiterated the NCRPO's commitment to eradicate "bad eggs" in the police force.

"This must never happen again. The NCRPO must remain a disciplined and
principled force in order to effectively uphold our sworn duty to serve and
protect," he said.

This developed as the Metro police chief ordered CPD officer-in `charge
Senior Supt. Oscar Marinas to conduct a deeper probe of the escape of
Narciso Prado who was facing charges of violation of RA 9165.

Reburiano was the deputy chief of the station's anti-illegal drug special
operation task force while Paday was the duty officer when the incident
occurred.

The escape was discovered during a head count last June 3.
