DRUG ADDICTS ARE 'LIKELY TO COMMIT CRIMES'
AJMAN - A new research reveals that drug addicts are likely to commit
crimes, or, show other illicit behavioural symptoms.
The research conducted by Hiba Abdul Hameed Al Nuaimi, a student of the
Ajman University of Science and Technology, under the supervision of Dr
Ahmed Al Qubassi, projects the serious impact of drugs on society, economic
development, and security of the country.
The UAE anti-narcotics departments are exerting extraordinary efforts to
help youngsters to get rid of the use drugs. They have no doubt succeeded in
protecting the society of the menace, yet there is a lot to be done, stated
the research.
There is also a massive campaign to eradicate the habit of using drugs in
all the Arab countries with great efforts to raise awareness among young
members of the society who fall prey to drugs easily.
The research also revealed that the security authorities concerned have
adopted new science-based approach in a bid to help drug addicts quit the
habit. Many of the latest research and studies have revealed the connection
between drug abuse and family instability as well as poor religious
understanding.
There is a need for parents to raise their children in a stable religious
atmosphere to ensure their children a healthy life. It is also important
that the drug users must not be treated as criminals, they should be treated
as patients. Parents should have dialogue and communication channels with
their children to understand their problems and needs. The research also
indicated that the poor economic conditions of society members is not always
the reason to blame for using drugs. Instead, heavy drug addicts come from
affluent families.
