MARIJUANA AND CIGARETTE CONSEQUENCES IRK MOM

Editor's note: The letter-writer's identity is being withheld due to
stipulations under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Dear Editor,

I was appalled that my son was ticketed at school for having half a package
of cigarettes in his possession, and in the package were two marijuana
joints. He was fined $115 for the cigarettes, and nothing could be done
about the pot.

What has society brought upon itself when people are fined for legal
substances and not fined for illegal substances.

As unhappy as I was about the cigarettes I was furious about the drugs, yet
society says "SAY YES TO DRUGS" if it's not over the illegal limit. Is
there a legal limit? Who determined the legal limit?

I truly hope the guy/gal driving the equipment next to me remembers that
legal limit.

And because I don't agree with drugs I am now "The Bad Guy," because it's
okay with society (the law agrees) that my children are legal to smoke pot,
even if I disagree.

May the dope dealers rot before hell.

Not to mention the amount of drinking that these kids are doing--NIGHTLY, I
might add.

The police are as they were when I was 15--they give you a break. But we as
parents are so duty-bound that we make excuses and save our kids from
trouble, yet we know not where our children are; we only hope they are safe
and that they will out-grow this stage of their lives.

But this stage is not just a haircut or colour, this stage is a complete
destruction of the future. And these children will be responsible for us as
we age.

My children's response to this will be "F--- you, Mom."

And my response to them will be, "I Love You."
