MORE PEOPLE ARE NEEDED IN CITY PARK
To the editor:
I am writing in response to the article Common Ground by Marshall Jones in
the July 4 edition of the Capital News.
In this article, Mr. Jones discusses the problem of drug users and the
homeless in City Park.
A key point was buried in the midst of the article. "We need the families
there because the more that family activity is going on, the less welcome
the dealers and others trying to live under a tree are going to feel."
Indeed, the citizens of Kelowna and their guests need to frequent City Park
and use its facilities on a regular basis.
Enjoy a walk along the promenade, peruse the vendors' wares, stop at the
concession for an ice cream or cold drink and visit the newly opened
Okanagan Nature Centre located in the Pavilion Building.
Scott Alexander and his staff of young and enthusiastic people will give
you a personal tour of the exhibits. The admission charge is minimal and
will help the Nature Centre to bring you bigger and better exhibits in the
future.
The "Wildfire 2003" video and photos will touch your heart. Sit in the
Convair fuselage located on the back deck.
Its up to you Kelowna. Make your presence known in City Park. Encourage
businesses, use the facilities and let the drug dealers, etc. know that we
will not tolerate their behaviour in our park. And yes seniors, the park is
safe to walk in.
