2 MEN NABBED AT CHECKPOINT

A CHECKPOINT of Lapu-Lapu City's elite Special Weapons and Tactics (Swat)
team netted two brothers and what appeared to be drugs and sniffing
paraphernalia inside their car early yesterday in Barangay Marigondon.

Swat Chief Senior Insp. Jonathan Pineda arrested Marcel Bonganciso
Tenge-lin, 26, and his younger brother Mike Olof, 24. Both are from Sitio
Kinalumsan, Barangay Gun-ob, Lapu-Lapu City.

Midnight operation

Investigator PO3 Jacin-to Mandal already prepared a complaint for illegal
possession of drugs and paraphernalia against the two.

PO3 Frederick Ano-ngos narrated that Pineda and his team set up a mobile
checkpoint in front of Marigondon Elementary School around midnight Friday.

By 12:15 a.m., they flagged down a green Honda car, bearing plate number
GJY-186.

Swat operatives checked the glove compartment where police saw a plastic
container, marked "Alpine."

PO1 Joymar Ybanez and PO2 Crisanto Areglo saw a small pack believed to be
shabu falling from the container down to the car floor.

The officers informed their official about what they saw and immediately
called the attention of other motorists snagged by the checkpoint.

Witnesses

Civilian motorists Elmer Estardo de Jesus and Cristine Quiapo Vistal both
agreed to act as witnesses to the police search. They saw the confiscation
of the suspected drug and other paraphernalia, name-ly an improvised glass
tooter, lighter, rolled aluminum foil strips and pieces of crumpled tissue
paper.

Police immediately arrested the suspects and had their vehicle impounded at
the police station.
