GET RID OF SCALAWAG COPS, REYES TELLS POLICEMEN
INTERIOR Secretary Angelo Reyes challenged the Philippine National Police
on Monday to win back the public's trust by purging itself of corrupt
officials.
"On your end, I ask two things, win the public's trust and get the job
done," Reyes said in a speech at flag-raising ceremonies in Camp Crame,
police general headquarters.
Reyes said he gave "specific directions" to Philippine National Police
(PNP) Director General Hermogenes Ebdane to rid the force or extortionists
or "kotong" and "hulidap" policemen.
Reyes, concurrent director of the National Police Commission (Napolcom),
stressed the importance of police visibility "24/7," and the maintenance of
checkpoints in key areas.
He also ordered the "standardization" of sanctions against policemen found
guilty of administrative charges
He also ordered Napolcom to coordinate with the Commission on Higher
Education (CHED) to "expedite" the bachelor's degrees of some 20,000
undergraduates in the police force.
