R1M DRUG BUST IN CITY
Drugs with a street value of nearly R1 million, including heroin, Ecstasy,
cocaine and tik, were seized and nine people were arrested during a major
drugs raid on a house in Rylands early today.
An unlicensed firearm was also found.
After the suspects, who include five women, were questioned, police went to
a warehouse in Airport Industria, where they confiscated 42 refuse bags of
dagga.
Police believe they have broken the back of a prominent drug syndicate
operating in the city.
Western Cape police spokesman Captain Billy Jones said that four men - aged
between 18 and 30, and the women ranging in age from 18 to 31 - were found
asleep in the house in Johnstone Road and were arrested.
The raid on the house was conducted by members of the Cape Town police
crime prevention unit and Athlone police between 2am and 3am today.
The police staked out the house - apparently well-known in Athlone
neighbourhood - for some time before raiding the premises.
