TEACHER CHARGED IN MARIJUANA CASE

A Spanish teacher at Lincoln High School was charged Sunday with
trying to take marijuana onto a flight leaving Tallahassee Regional
Airport and then swallowing it after he was stopped by security. Peter
O. MacWilliam, 44, was charged with marijuana possession, a
misdemeanor, and evidence tampering, a felony. Police reports said
airport screeners found a substance that tested positive as marijuana
in a film canister MacWilliam had. He later grabbed the canister off a
counter and swallowed its contents, reports said. MacWilliam then told
police, "What did you expect me to do?" He has taught at Lincoln since
1997, according to Iris Wilson, an assistant superintendent. "He's a
great teacher," Wilson said. "Students love him." The district has had
no problems with MacWilliam, she added. Jim Parry, the school
district's attorney, said MacWilliam's job status is pending a review
of the police reports.
