EPD WILL NOT FOLLOW COUNTY POT ORDINANCE

The county's medical marijuana ordinance adopted last week by the
Humboldt County Board of Supervisors affects only the unincorporated
areas and the cities that choose to follow it.

The California Highway Patrol and the Humboldt County Drug Task Force,
even in unincorporated areas, will continue to follow state guidelines.

The Eureka Police Department will not change its standards either.

"It is something that the county is certainly entitled to do," EPD
Police Chief Dave Douglas said of the supervisors' ordinance. "It
doesn't directly affect us."

Douglas said EPD will wait until the state attorney general makes some
expected adjustments later this year and the Supreme Court makes its
ruling to make any changes to its policy.

"We follow the state and federal guidelines," he said. "We have a
format that has been in place since August 2000.

Douglas said the EPD will wait and see where the chips
fall.

"The goal is to see where federal folks will be coming from, and we'll
go forward from there. We're not changing our standards."

Humboldt County Counsel Tamara Falor said ordinances can be revisited
at any time and it would have to be if there any changes to SB 420,
which the ordinance is grounded in.
