VIGILANTES KILL 4 MORE; TOTAL EXECUTIONS REACH 47
DAVAO CITY-Suspected members of the so-called Davao Death Squad went on a
shooting rampage here, killing four more persons on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The fresh executions brought the number of vigilante-related killings to 47
this year.
The latest victims were Emilio Verano, 54, and Arellano Abellana, 52.
The two victims were playing 'mahjong' inside the house of a certain Bobby
Antulin on Quezon Boulevard in Barangay 76-A around noon when they were shot.
Responding policemen recovered five spent shells of a 9 mm pistol and
another shell from a .45 cal. pistol.
About five hours earlier, a 35-year-old man was gunned down shortly after
bringing his Grade 2 son to the Hizon Elementary School in Barangay Lanang
around 7 a.m.
Rey Morales was driving a motorcycle and was already on his way home when
three men on board another motorcycle fired at him a few meters from the
school.
Morales was reportedly a former asset of the Narcotics Command (now the
Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency).
On Tuesday, suspected vigilante hit men also killed a 21-year-old alleged
member of a notorious gang operating in Toril District.
The death of Brocel Lopez came a day after Mayor Rodrigo Duterte announced
that his patience against violent gangs has run out.
