TRIBE CONSIDERS BROAD DRUG TESTING

The chief, council members, police officers and teachers on the Blood
reserve might face mandatory drug testing under measures being
considered by a tribal task force on violence.

Stepping up enforcement of an existing curfew for teens is another
idea being examined by the task force, appointed by the tribal council
in May to deal with violence and substance abuse in the southern
Alberta reserve.

Task force chairman Charles Weaselhead said he recognizes such
measures could be controversial but stressed representatives from
Stand Off and other small reserves will be consulted before decisions
are made.
