PDEA SLAMS UN REPORT ON DRUGS

REPORTS claiming that the Philippines is one of the world's top three
producers of shabu and that Filipinos are the fourth biggest consumer of
amphetamine are inaccurate and misleading.

This was according to Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency chief Anselmo S.
Avenido, Jr., who stressed that the report was based on old data.

The report was based on the World Drug Report of the United Nations Office
on Drugs and Crime released this month.

"The UN report is a compilation of data submitted by the different
member-countries for the year 2002 and earlier. Because of these
accomplishments, we are erroneously cited as a major producer of shabu just
because other countries were not able to dismantle shabu laboratories,"
Avenido said.

China and Myanmar were also in the list of top shabu producers.
