PROHIBITION THE PROBLEM
John Martin says B.C. is the place to be for someone who will spend
his life immersed in drugs.
It's surprising that he, as a criminology professor, is oblivious to
the fact that millions of Canadians are immersed in legal drugs.
While working as a tax-return preparer, I was shocked to discover not
only how many seniors are on a permanent diet of prescription drugs,
but also how many of them have multiple prescriptions, taking as many
as eight different drugs daily.
And yet we don't see drug dealers on the street peddling high-
blood-pressure pills, or turf wars fought over the distribution of
Prozac and other legal drugs.
Many civilians are confused about the issues surrounding drug use.
But Martin should be able to tell the difference between the effects
of drugs and the effects of drug prohibition.
