SHELBY WILL JOIN IN `NATIONAL NIGHT OUT'
Neighborhoods are invited to join communities across the nation to
participate in the "National Night Out" crime and drug prevention
event on Aug. 3. The event is designed to heighten awareness, generate
support for anti-crime efforts, strengthen neighborhood spirit and
send a message to criminals.From 7 to 10 p.m. Shelby residents are
asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend an evening
outside with their neighbors and police. Neighborhood cookouts are
encouraged.
From 5 to 10 p.m., the Shelby Police Department will display law
enforcement vehicles at the Shelby City Park. Information booths on
community watch groups and the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program
and food vendors will be open.
Nationwide, more than 34 million people are expected to participate.
