MORE DRUG ACTIVITY IN CITY
Capping off a week of drug busts and a plea from city and county
officials and law enforcement officers, the North Texas Regional
Narcotics Task Force ran a search warrant which led to a drug
possession arrest Friday morning.
Police Chief Carl Dunlap said task force members along with
Gainesville officers and Cooke County deputies went into the house at
1021 N. Taylor and seized less than 1 gram of methamphetamines.
The officers also arrested Harry Cruzado, 26, with an address on North
Grand Avenue, for possession of methamphetamines. He was taken to
Cooke County Jail. Saturday he posted a $15,000 bond and was released
from jail.
On July 20, city and county officials held a press conference
requesting residents notify law enforcement officers about possible
drug trafficking, especially related to methamphetamine, in their
areas. During the meeting Rep. Rick Hardcastle, R-Vernon, called
methamphetamine "the scourge of Texas."
Dunlap said the officials' pleas have been generating information.
"We're trying to get to as many as we can as fast as we can," he said.
"The public is helping us."
Throughout that week, the city and county law enforcement offices
worked together and separately make drug busts, including one that
netted more than 400 grams of methamphetamines, and made several
arrests for manufacture and delivery.
Some of the calls to the anonymous Crime Tips Hotline at 612-0000 have
led to information about on-going investigations.
"It helps in clarifying probably cause," Dunlap said. Officers need
probable cause information in order to obtain a search warrant for the
house.
Dunlap encouraged residents to continue calling city and county law
enforcement agencies with information.
"Please continue to let us know," he said. "Call the Crime Tips
Hotline."
Information may be passed along to the police department through the
anonymous Crime Tips Hotline at 612-0000 or 668-7777. Information may
be given to the sheriff's office by calling 665-3471.
